PLEASE NOTE - THIS LUNCH TAKES PLACE FRIDAY, MARCH 22. The March CLE Lunch will be held at the Springfield Art Museum where our panel of scholars will discuss the topic of Rule of Law and Independence as a fundamental American value. Thank you to our panelists Drs. Dan Ponder (Drury), Kevin Pybas (MSU) and Brandon Schmidly (Evangel). Museum Director Nick Nelson will guide an optional post lunch tour of the exhibit “Spirit of Independence: Kent Bicentennial Portfolio.” Spirit of Independence: Kent Bicentennial Portfolio – exhibit description What does "independence" mean to you? This was the question posed to 12 American artists by the Kent Bicentennial Program in 1976. The resulting portfolio presents views from the historical to the highly personal, and from the theoretical to the symbolic. This exhibit invites us to re-engage with this founding ideology of American democracy in today’s context- post pandemic, climate crisis, change, racism, sexism, hate and division. As we enter into what will likely be yet another highly charged presidential election season in 2024 the question recurs - What does independence mean to you? More on the exhibit at this link 1 MoCLE
