They haven’t sought or received recognition for their efforts, but for the past four years, trial lawyers in Southwest Missouri have collected coats and money for those most in need in our community. Since 2011 Springfield area MATA members and their families have donated more than 850 coats and $38,000 to The Kitchen, Inc.
The project outreach is impressive, even more so because it started with the intention to help one child four years ago. A local attorney got the idea when he passed the Missouri hotel during an early morning run one cold winter day. He noticed a child waiting for the school bus without warm clothing. When he got to the office, his first thought was how to get a coat to that child.
Four years and nearly a thousand coats later, that attorney said, “I had an idea to help kids in need. I reached out to my fellow lawyers and they have never let me down. I am very proud of the trial lawyers in our community.”
