2016 Bearister 5K Recap/ Results

For more than two decades the annual Springfield Bar 5K has brought together lawyers, runners and lawyer-runners for a bit of fun, fitness and friendly competition. Friday September 16 the tradition continued, marking the Inaugural Bearister Run at Missouri State University.

The race name and location provided an opportunity to highlight and promote the collaboration between the bar foundation and the university in the creation of the Bearister Program. Bearisters are volunteer lawyers who meet with Missouri State students for limited consultation and referral. Appointments are scheduled by the university and take place at the Bearister office on Missouri State campus. 

This year, instead of coursing through the streets, the 5K course was 12 ½ laps on the track, a detail which caused some pre-race apprehension for both race director and runners. That apprehension was quickly dispelled and by the end of the race many of the runners said they not only liked the new format, they actually preferred it. It was a great race and fun event thanks to our runners, sponsors boosters and volunteers.
