For the second consecutive year, the Springfield Metropolitan Bar Foundation has been a recipient of the LexisNexis Community & Educational Outreach Award.  This year the Bearisters program was honored for innovation, originality and effectiveness.  Mark McQueary, President of the Springfield Metropolitan Bar Foundation, accepted the award at the National Association of Bar Executive’s Annual Meeting in New York on August 10.  “We are proud to receive this prestigious award, which stems from a strong collaboration with Missouri State University and depends on the dedicated volunteer attorneys who serve as Bearisters” said McQueary.

Bearisters are volunteer lawyers who meet with students at Missouri State University, for limited consultation and referral.  According to Thomas Lane, Dean of Students “The Bearisters program provides an important service to our students.  Missouri State University has a national reputation for working with first generation, low income students. Many of these students can’t afford attorney fees. The Bearisters program helps our students understand legal problems and offers advice on how to address the problems.”

The following attorneys have served as Bearisters since the program’s inception in 2015: Scott Pierson, Kyle Harmon, Matt Russell, Thomas Carver, Corey Kilburn, Topper Glass and Arthur Haseltine.
