Governor Parson Picks SMBA Past President for Southern District

Friday, November 4, 2022

Governor Mike Parson made history today with the appointment of SMBA Past President Ginger Gooch to the Missouri Court of Appeals, Southern District.  With the Gooch appointment the seven-member court will be comprised of four women and three men, the first majority female appellate court division in Missouri history.

When asked for comment, Gooch said “I am humbled and grateful to be selected first by the Appellate Judicial Commission and now by Governor Parson.  I look forward to serving the people of Missouri in the capacity of judge and in doing so, honoring the many people who have mentored me and supported me from the time I started law school and throughout my career.”

Gooch began her career as clerk to the Honorable Ann Covington.  Covington was the first woman to serve on the Supreme Court of Missouri.  After that Gooch joined the firm Husch Blackwell and has been a partner with the Husch firm since 2008.

Throughout her career Gooch has actively served the profession and community.  SMBA President Nate Dunville said “Ginger brings a depth of knowledge and breadth of experience that make her uniquely positioned to serve as an appellate court judge.  She is also liked, respected and admired by lawyers not just here, but across the state. We could not be happier for her.”
