The Honorable Regi Martin 1959-2023

The 31^st Circuit lost a highly respected and greatly esteemed member with the passing of the Commissioner Regi Martin who died February 16, 2023. 

Presiding Judge Michael Cordonnier had this to say: “Regi Martin will be greatly missed. She was well recognized as a jurist, who not only applied the law fairly, but exercised common sense and compassion in the cases she ruled.”

In her tenure as a member of the Springfield legal community, Commissioner Martin moved quickly through the ranks, setting herself apart with her intelligence, acumen and kindness.  And in the often contentious area of family law it didn’t hurt that she had a fantastic sense of humor.

As a lawyer and a judge Commissioner Martin supported the bar and stayed connected to the profession.  She credited mentors for her success, particularly SMBA Past President Linda Thomas, and she passed that along mentoring lawyers who followed.

SMBA Past President Nate Dunville said: “Commissioner Martin was a brilliant lawyer and a well regarded Family Court Commissioner. More than that, she was a wonderful person, a reliable friend, and a mentor to many in our legal community.”
