Game Two - April 18, 2023, 6:00 at Mother’s Brewing Company Back Yard Bad News Barristers (Neale Newman) v. Carnahan Evans Neale Newman Bad News Barristers were first to bat with Carnahan Evans' David Olive pitching. First up was Nate Dunville with a lofty pop fly right into the hands of Andy Peebles. Gus Scott followed promptly with a ground ball cleanly fielded by Peebles. Olive struck out the next batter and Carnahan Evans were up to bat. Pitching for the Neale Newman Bad News Barristers was Nate Dunville who bookended the bottom of the first with strike outs. Olive was the first player in the game to get on base with a double into the tree branches. Team Captain Andy Peebles hit to Dunville who returned the favor by catching the pop fly. In the second inning with Olive pitching the Neale Newman Bad News Barristers’ Gunnar Johansen set the tone with a triple, right off the literal bat. Next up – Nathan Rogers hit a solid pop – but no getting past Peebles and he was out. Captain Kirsten Poppen followed with a single bringing Johansen home (according to the rules as we make them up) then Dunville hit a triple bringing Poppen home. Olive struck the next two players out closing the top of the second with the Bad News Barristers leading by two points. Next in the Carnahan Evans batting order was Alex Henson who hit a controversial double into the sawhorse. Dunville struck out the next batter then Olive hit a triple, bringing Henson home and putting Carnahan on the board. Captain Andy Peebles followed up with a hit caught by Johansen for the second out and the inning ended with Christian Horton’s hit cleanly caught by Dunville. The second inning score - Carnahan Evans 1 and Neale Newman 2. In the top of the third inning Nathan Rogers hit a triple. Olive struck out the next two players before Dunville followed up with a triple giving the Neale Newman Bad News Barristers their third and final point of the game. Carnahan Evans tied the game with their at bat with a single, double and triple from Olive, Preston and Horton respectively in a short inning. The top of the fourth was Bad News for the for Neale Newman Barristers, memorable only when, between two strike outs, Gus Scott hit a nice pop fly, dramatically caught one handed by Peebles. Where Neale Newman fizzled, Carnahan Evans soared. Olive led the bottom of the fourth with an over-the-fence home run – the only HR of the evening and setting the tone for the rest of the game. Horton hit a double, Alex Henson followed with a tree-ding-double, then Preston with a smack-the-fence triple. Returning to top of the batting order, Olive delivered a double followed by a triple by Peebles. The inning ended with Horton’s pop fly caught by Gus Scott and a score with Carnahan Evans leading 7 to 3. The otherwise uneventful fifth inning was highlighted by a triple by Rogers, bookended by three outs, ending the game with a Carnahan Evans win. Game Three April 18, 2023, 7:00, at Mother’s Brewing Company Back Yard Appealables (31st Circuit Judges) v. Husch Top of first had Husch in the field with Bryan Wade pitching and the Appealables (Judges of the 31st Circuit) at bat. First at bat Judge Palmietto had a nice hit but was cleanly caught by Ryan Olson. Next up was team Captain Judge Carrier who walked followed by a double and triple by Judges Christensen and Harmison respectively. In the bottom of the first, with Carrier pitching, Danielle Reid led the batting order with a hit-the-little-free-library double. Ryan Olson followed with a double. Lauren Haskins was next up with a nice ground ball but it was cleanly fielded by Christensen and the inning ended with a score of Appealables 2, Husch 1. The top of the second saw some solid fielding by Husch – including an Olson-caught pop by Harmison and Palmietto was the only team member to get on base by the Appealables. In the bottom of the second Harmison returned the favor, catching a nice pop by Reid. Husch then turned on the heat with a single, double and single by Wade, Olson and Haskins respectively. New to the firm lawyer Christy Brunty followed with a solid hit unfortunately directly to Christensen. Back to the top of the batting order, Reid managed a triple-under-the-picnic-table, followed by Wade’s single – Husch gaining 4 runs total in the second and a score of Appealables 2, Husch 5. Not to be overruled, the Appealables came on strong in the top of the third with singles by Carrier and Christensen followed by doubles by Harmison and Christensen – scoring three more points and tying the game. Husch was hushed, ending the inning with a single by Haskins, a double by Brunty and three outs. Tied game Appealables 5, Husch 5. Back at bat, the Appealables had an unappealing inning in the top of the fourth. Palmietto hit a good ground ball intercepted by Reid and Carrier was the only team member to get on base. Palmietto returned the favor in the bottom of the fourth, catching Haskin’s ground ball. That was followed by a double, triple and triple by Brunty, Wade and Olson respectively and the inning ended with Reid hitting a pop fly to Harmison and Husch taking the lead with a score of Appealables 5, Husch 7. Husch made short work of fifth inning with three quick outs and winning the game. __________________________________ Come out and watch the next game, Thursday April 27, 6:00 at Mother’s Brewing Company Back Yard with Hall Ansley v.
