Game Four Wiffle Ball!

Game Four - April 27, 2023, 6:10 pm, Mother’s Brewing Company Back Yard

Hall Ansley v Spencer Fane

Game four started a bit late due to a beer delay. Due to the nature of the late start you might think the players would be relaxed and affable.  Let’s just say a hit by pitch rule will be invoked going forward.

Hall Ansley pitcher Eric Belk set the tone for the competitive and speedy game. The top of the first consisted of two strike outs and a hit by Spencer Fane’s Alec Martinez cleanly caught by Ben Stringer.  Ben Shantz then took the pitcher’s mound for Spencer Fane and literally right off the bat Tim Ricker scored a “hit-the-wall” homerun. Stringer was next up with a short pause to converse with a small child who had wandered into the batting zone.  Adam Pihana was the only other player to get on base with a single and the inning ended with Hall Ansley 1, Spencer Fane 0.

Adam Pihana pitching for Hall Ansley in the top of the second managed three consecutive strike outs.  On an unrelated note, the pitching distance will be increased in all future games.  In the bottom of the second Shantz prevented Hall Ansley from scoring, but not before Hall Ansley got on base.  Stringer bookended the half inning with a double-into-the-sawhorse and a respectable hit cleanly caught by Martinez, ending the inning.

Pihana pitched three strikeouts in a row in the top of the third. In the bottom of the third Martinez took a turn at pitching for Spencer Fane and Belk welcomed him to the mound with an almost-to-the-wall triple.  Pihana struck out followed by a triple by Ricker. Up next Ben Stringer got a decent hit, cleanly caught by the other Ben S and the inning ending score was Hall Ansley 2, Spencer Fane 0.

The fourth and the fifth innings were anti-climactic with a bunch of strike-outs. It was pretty damp and chilly and a cynical person might conclude that the players were making haste to end the game where they started – in the bar.  Not the law one.

The first round of the semi-finals will take place at 6:00 with The Dragon Slayers (Greene County Prosecutors) facing the Bad News Barristers (Neale Newman). At 7:00  Kutak will take on Carnahan Evans.
