SPRINGFIELD, October 24, 2023

More than 300 community leaders, attorneys, school district administrators, law enforcement members and volunteers celebrated 20 years of Safe and Sober this morning at a breakfast in Springfield.

Since the first Safe and Sober event in Springfield Public Schools in 2004, Safe and Sober has supported Missouri schools and over 1.3 million students in the prevention of substance misuse.  The 2023-24 school year marks the start of the 20th year delivering a no-cost, relevant, digital program on adolescent substance misuse to schools and after-school programs throughout the State.

Following chilling testimonies from victims of impaired driving, law enforcement and the medical community, founder and attorney Kurt Larson concluded the program with a quote from Dr. Vivek Murthy, US Surgeon General who said, “If we seize the moment, step up for our children and their families in their moment of need, and lead with inclusion, kindness and respect, we can lay the foundation for a healthier, more resilient, and more fulfilled nation.”
