Dragonslayers (GC Prosecutors) Game 14, 6:15 Sluggers (Hall Ansley) v Let Freedom Swing (Twibell Pierson) Game 15, 7:00 Court Jesters (Carnahan Evans) v DOJ Turkeys Game 16, 7:45 Motion to Strike (CoxHealth and friends) v RMS (Rooney McBride and Smith) The primary objective of SMBA Wiffle Ball is to help members get acquainted in a wholesome and healthy activity. The teams playing in the 5:30 game on June 4 were already well acquainted when the Public Defender “Crusaders” played the Greene County Prosecutor “Dragonslayers.” Game Highlights: Crusaders taunting Pitcher Patterson with “are you intentionally throwing curve balls?” Excellent back and forth play by summer associates Abraham Martin (Crusaders) and Christian Musgrave (Dragonslayers) Solid hitting with RBIs by female Dragonslayers Katelynn Frazier, Kaylee Comer and Hannah Lucas. Dragonslayer Chris Lebeck reaching his lifetime limit of leaning into hits by pitch resulting in the new league rule. “Intentional obstruction of the ball by the batter will be counted as a strike.” Five tool player Patterson on display as pitcher, with a valiant catch involving a head over heels roll and an over the fence hit that was almost a home run were it not a foul ball. First of its kind home run by Crusader Abraham Martin with a hit that bounced over the fence. Final Score Crusaders 10 Dragonslayers 3 MVPs selected by captain of opposing team Quentin Michel Dan Patterson Next up was the much-anticipated game between 2023 Champs Sluggers (Hall Ansley) v Let Freedom Swing (Twibell Pierson). As is often the case with well-matched teams, it was tense, fairly low scoring and not super exciting. Back to back home runs by teammates Bryan Delleville and Cole Roberts cinched the win for Let Freedom Swing. Final Score Let Freedom Swing 5 Sluggers 3 MVPs selected by captain of opposing team Eric Belk Jason Johnson Game 15 matched the Court Jesters (Carnahan Evans) v. DOJ Turkeys – res ipsa loquiter. Highlights of the game included In their first at bat Jesters’ player David Olive inquiring “do I have enough time to get a beer." Triplet of triples by the Turkey’s Cameron Beaver, Randy Eggert and Dane Puckett – and an inning ending valiant pop catch by Jesters’ Chip Sheppard Both a grand slam home run and a rolling-on-the ground catch by Turkey Mike Oliver. Final Score Court Jesters 9 DOJ Turkeys 20 MVPs selected by captain of opposing team Jay Preston Cameron Beaver In Game 16 at 7:45 Motion to Strike (CoxHealth and friends) played RMS (Rooney McBride and Smith). Sadly, Commissioner/Reporter/Executive Director/ Cheerleader Hogan was emotionally exhausted after the first three games and took sparse notes. However, it is worthy of mention that Motion to Strike fielded the only all-female team and female pitcher of the season and held their own against RMS which appears to be one of the best teams in the league. Also, both teams showed up in coordinating t-shirts. Final Score Motion to Strike 4 RMS 6 MVPs selected by captain of opposing team Abby Craigmyle Austin Williamson
