2024 SMBA Law Day Recap
Tuesday, November 19, 2024
The Springfield Metropolitan Bar Association annual Law Day lunch was held on Wednesday October 23, 2024 at Hickory Hills Country Club.
The theme for this year’s Law Day was "Voices of Democracy” and the SMBA was fortunate to have the President of the American Bar Association, Bill Bay, deliver the Law Day address.
Following Bay’s remarks, awards were presented in three categories: Distinguished Attorney, Equal Access to Justice, and Liberty Bell Award.
The 2024 Distinguished Attorney Award, which is the highest honor given by the SMBA, went to Rod Loomer.
In presenting the award, Scott Bellm noted that throughout his career Loomer has served as a mentor and a role model, demonstrating expertise and commitment both to his clients and to the profession through his involvement with both the SMBA and the
Missouri Bar.
The Equal Access to Justice Award, which recognizes individuals who provide significant pro bono services, was presented to Anne Sallee Mason.
The Liberty Bell Award, which recognizes non-lawyers who encourage respect for our legal system, was presented to Sharon Alexander.
This year’s theme “Voices of Democracy" inspired nearly 100 entries in the SMBA poster contest. An awards ceremony was held October 15, 2024 at the Library Center to celebrate the young artists and unveil the poster display, which was showcased in the
concourse through the second week in November, during which time tens of thousands of library patrons and voters passed the inspiring work of the young artists.
