2025 Teams, Schedule and Rules
Schedule We will play Tuesday evenings at Mother’s Brewery May 13 to June 24 Games are short – 30 to 45 minutes so we will have four games a night with the first game starting at 5:30. If your game starts at 6:15, 7:00 or 7:45 plan to arrive thirty minutes early to watch the previous game and be available to start early if we are ahead of schedule.
Each team will play at least two times and a maximum of six times. The initial stage is double elimination followed by a single elimination playoff.
Team Composition Teams may have a minimum of three players including the captain on their roster. All team members must be members of SMBA. Firms/ organizations are encouraged to field teams, as well as groups of solo practitioners. Summer associates who are law school students are allowed. Rules Home team determined by coin flip Five innings, both teams bat if tied Three outs per half-inning Mercy rule will apply situationally.
Pitching/ Batting and officiating. Distance between pitcher and backdrop is 30 feet. Four balls, three strikes per batter Backdrop is strikezone. No bunting Hit by pitch is a base hit. Intentional hit by pitch on part of batter is an automatic out. Games will be officiated by volunteers. Team captains might be asked to officiate for games prior to or after their teams compete if necessary.
Ghost running and scoring Field is marked with zones for singles, doubles, triples, home runs and foul lines. Hits landing between home and pitcher and are singles, between pitcher and first partition are doubles, between first and second partition are triples, past second partition are home runs. Over the fence home run Hit the tree is triple Maximum of six runs per inning
Fielding Teams may have a minimum of three and maximum five players on the field - pitcher plus four fielders even with or behind pitcher. The number on the field will match the number of the smaller team rotating in batting order. A groundball fielded cleanly while still moving and any batted ball caught in the air – including those hit into the trees is an out. If a ground ball stops before fielded it is fair.
Game Day Batting order rosters must be provided to chogan@springfieldbar.com by noon game day. Entire team should arrive at least 15 minutes before game time for set up and in case we are running ahead of schedule.
