Stress, Emotion and Mental Health: Strategies for Lawyers
There has been a lot of bad news about stress, substance abuse and mental health issues affecting lawyers in the last few years. Studies consistently show that lawyers are particularly at risk for developing problems, and that they are uniquely difficult (resistant) to treatment (professional repercussions). But there is some good news. A recent report entitled “The Path to Lawyer Well-Being: Practical Recommendations For Positive Change” was published by The National Task Force on Lawyer Well-Being.” The profession is taking note and the conversations that are now taking place will hopefully lead to positive and lasting change.
Our speaker is a popular presenter at SMBA CLE programs. Michael Merrigan has presented on ethics and attorney wellness issues. Michael is a clinical assistant professor at Missouri State University, in the Masters in Health Administration program. He received his BA in 1981 from Loras College, his JD in 1984 from the University of Iowa College of Law, and his MBA in 1989 from the University of South Dakota.
